Brief Description: Left wing top skins part #1
|
|
Had a good day in the workshop. I finished the tops skins for the left wing, which were reamed to #40. Once that was done, I pulled the bottom skins off the right wing and move the skeleton outside.
I had to finish the mounting bracket for the win stand and then fabircate the bracket to hold the outboard rib to the other wing stand.
Same as before, a piece of aluminum angle, the same size piece of 1/2 oak, and a couple of bolts and nuts. Had to grind off a significant amount of the heads on the bolts so that the threaded rod would have clearance.
The 1/2 oak gives enough distance for the skins on the outboard rib, not come into contact with the bracket as some folks have found out as they had to cut a slot into the bracket to allow the skin to sit flush.
Both wings are in the stands, both are final drilled to #40, and now on to finishing off the leading edges. Things are really happening fast now. It's going to come to a screaming slow down once I'm ready for the tanks.
I also picked up some stainless steel socket head screws for the encapsulated nutplates for the tanks. I have 50 of them if anyone needs to use them. Only paid $7.00 for teh 50 and I'm using only24. The are 8-32 x 1/2 ".

Looks are decieving, it's actually 0.00 degrees.

As you can see, the skin doesn't touch.
